USA Water Polo

USA Water Polo has a rich tradition of success at every level including World Championship, World Cup, World League and Pan Am Gold Medals, and most recently, Olympic Gold for our women’s program. USA Water Polo is committed to the development and promotion of the sport throughout the US and to providing the best possible experience for all age and skill levels, for both genders, for handicapped individuals, and for minorities. It fosters grass-roots expansion of the sport, providing a national system of affiliated clubs and leagues, certified coaches and officials, educational materials, and background screenings, as well as developing programmatic materials and undertaking initiatives to generate greater awareness of the sport.

Positive Coaching Alliance

Vashon Water Polo is part of the Positive Coaching Alliance, a national non-profit developing “Better Athletes, Better People” by working to provide all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience. We focus on:
The Double-Goal Coach®, who strives to win while also pursuing the more important goal of life lessons through sports;
The Second-Goal Parent®, who concentrates on life lessons, while letting coaches and athletes focus on competing;
The Triple-Impact Competitor®, who strives to impact sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates and the game as a whole.

What Families Say

  • My nine year old son had a blast. He did swim practice then played Splashball and never thought of it as hard work! The coaches made it feel safe and energetic, and I think it is a great introduction to the sport for younger swimmers.
    John J, Splashball Parent
  • My son is not a strong swimmer, and I wanted him to try something new. He really built up his confidence in the water, and found that he was pretty good at passing and shooting the ball. I liked the way the coach helped him learn new skills, and mixed up the teams so that everyone got a chance to play together.
    Michelle H, Splashball Parent
  • My daughter was not on a swim team, so it was a stretch for her to step into a new sport. She was gently challenged and learned so much about herself – what she is capable of – and made new friends while getting fit and strong. We loved the support from the other families and the coaches and she built up so much confidence that she joined the swim team in the Fall!
    Patty G, Junior Fireball Parent
  • The athletes in the pool are building confidence and competence in an aquatic environment. My daughter swims regularly and wanted to expand her experience with something that would challenge her and grow her endurance. She wants to “win” all the time, and the coaches put it all in perspective. They re-directed her competitive spirit so she felt successful, and the idea of “winning” became more about how she brought her personal best to the pool rather than being “first” all the time.
    Bruce J, Junior Fireball Parent
  • The team do a great job of designing programs that meet the needs of each age group. My kids swim competitively and really enjoyed the cross-training that developed their stamina and coordination. It’s a fabulous team sport that is fast and fun, whatever level the kids train at.
    Lissa S, Junior/Senior Fireball Parent
  • It was great to do swim practice and then get another hour in the pool having fun. It was challenging at times, but I felt fitter, stronger and developed more stamina – which helped me as much out of the pool as in it.
    Trevor T, Senior FIreball Participant
  • With both Splashball and Water Polo it is our aim to develop the full athlete. I want each swimmer to walk on deck ready to have fun, and leave with a feeling of accomplishment. I expect players to bring their best selves forward, challenge their preconceptions about what they are capable of, and take these ideas away with them at the end of the day.

Training Groups & Registration

Splashball is played in the shallow end of the pool and is designed to introduce the sport of water polo to children 6-9yrs. This year it will be incorporated into the regular swimteam program on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30am. Please visit the SEALS website for more information.

Junior Fireball™

Junior Fireball is aimed at athletes between 10-13yrs who are ready to train in the deep end of the pool. This group builds a deeper understanding of the sport in a dynamic environment. The emphasis is on technique, skill building, and developing stamina, all while having way too much fun.

Senior Fireball™

The senior group is for swimmers 13yrs & over who are ready to play. The emphasis is still on technique and stamina, and the challenge is greater as the playing “field” is expanded to the whole pool. Athletes deepen their appreciation of the sport by developing game strategy and set plays.
